A Memorable Visit to the Kvarken Archipelago: Connecting Families Through Nature, Learning, and Community

NEWSBLOG

Safe Corner ry recently had the pleasure of organizing a special "Vaasa Island Nature & Safety" Family Workshop in the Kvarken Archipelago, Finland's only UNESCO World Heritage Site, for immigrant women and their families living in the Vaasa region.

The visit was designed to provide participants with an opportunity to explore one of Finland's most remarkable natural treasures while fostering social connections, cultural understanding, improved confidence, basic safety competence, a stronger connection to Finnish nature, and a sense of belonging within the local community.

The day offered families a chance to experience the unique beauty of the Kvarken Archipelago, renowned worldwide for its exceptional geological features, and learn about the ongoing land uplift phenomenon. Participants enjoyed guided activities, scenic views, and meaningful discussions about the region's history, environment, and significance as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They were also delighted to visit the bird tower and ate lunch that was made of mostly organic produce.

For many of the women and their families, this was their first visit to the archipelago. The experience provided not only an opportunity to learn about Finland's natural heritage but also a chance to spend quality time outdoors, meet new people, learn about safety, and create lasting memories with their families.

Throughout the excursion, participants shared stories and exchanged experiences. Children explored the natural surroundings with curiosity and excitement, while parents enjoyed connecting with others in a welcoming and supportive environment.

At our organization, we believe that integration extends beyond practical support services. It also involves creating opportunities for participation, fostering community engagement, and helping individuals feel connected to the society around them. Activities such as this excursion play an important role in promoting inclusion, well-being, and cross-cultural understanding.

We are grateful to all the families who joined us, as well as the volunteers, partners, and supporters who contributed to the success of this event. Their commitment and enthusiasm helped create a memorable experience for everyone involved.

As we continue our work, we remain dedicated to empowering immigrant women and their families through educational, cultural, and community-based activities that promote confidence, connection, and belonging.

We look forward to organizing more opportunities for families to discover Finland's rich cultural and natural heritage while strengthening the bonds that unite our diverse community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this day a success.
