PROJECT

We are happy to launch the EmpowerHER Vaasa workshop. EmpowerHER Vaasa is a collaborative initiative between Safe Corner ry and a Familia ry, dedicated to supporting single, divorced, and separated women—particularly those from immigrant backgrounds—in Vaasa, Finland. The project aims to foster social inclusion, economic independence, and personal empowerment by providing targeted training, mentorship, and community support. Through a culturally sensitive and holistic approach, the workshop will address the unique challenges faced by single, divorced, or separated immigrant women navigating new social systems while managing family and financial responsibilities independently.
Background and Rationale
Immigrant women in Finland, especially those who are single, divorced, or separated, often encounter multiple barriers to integration. These include limited access to employment opportunities, language barriers, social isolation, and reduced access to support networks. Many also face emotional and psychological challenges related to life transitions and cultural adaptation. Without targeted support, these factors can significantly hinder their ability to fully participate in Finnish society.
This project recognizes that empowerment begins with access to skills, knowledge, networks, and opportunities. By partnering with an experienced NGO like Familia ry, we aim to create a supportive ecosystem that strengthens resilience and promotes long-term inclusion of single, divorced, and separated women's peer groups.
